Keeping this in view, are artist prints more valuable?
Traditionally, artists kept these proofs for their personal collections—and artworks that belonged to the artists themselves will be more valuable in today's market. Proofs are also highly desirable if they are in some way unique, such as those that feature notes from the artist.
Similarly, do art prints sell well? Selling prints of your work can be very profitable because you can continue to generate income from a single piece. Lower price points (versus original art) mean you likely can sell more volume.
Likewise, should I sell original art or prints?
If you find a collector would prefer to have an original, if you create prints of the work, you can sell both. The sale of the original can fund the creation of the prints, and the work can keep selling, even after it is out of your hands.
Are prints of famous paintings tacky?
They are as tacky as art books and websites, by that I mean not at all. Absolutely buy reproductions! Sure, the original may have more depth and texture and the awe-inspiring quality of being one of a kind, but if it is the image that strikes you the most, then the reproduction will get you just that.
